UV Disinfection Systems
Who needs a UV Disinfection System?
People who have their own private well water supply are advised to test and treat their water supply regularly. Regular testing and the installation of a UV water treatment system including UV lamps and UV filters can help to eradicate a high number of bacteria from entering your drinking supply.
Certain areas can be more susceptible to outbreaks as was seen in the Mid-West of Ireland in 2021, where there were 164 cases of verotoxigenic e.coli (VTEC). The Mid-West region has one of the highest rates of VTEC in Ireland, while Ireland has one of the highest rates in Europe, according to the Department of Public Health, Midwest.
Why do I need to treat my water using UV Water Treatment?
Using ultraviolet water treatment kills bacteria in your water supply without using chemicals. The rays emitted from the UV lamp in the disinfection units kill potentially illness-causing micro-organisms such as Cryptosporidium and Giardia, harmful bacteria like E.Coli, and viruses not visible to the naked eye as well as coliforms, salmonella, streptococcus, hepatitis, cholera and even meningitis.
Will a UV Disinfection System also treat my water for other materials?
No, UV water treatment systems will not remove heavy metals, hardness causing salts, chlorine, or other organic and inorganic compounds from your water supply. There are other methods which can be used to remove these from your water – our Water Treatment Team can advise you separately on how best to remove these materials.
What are the benefits to installing a UV Disinfection System?
- • No chemicals
- • Cost effective
- • Environmentally friendly
- • Simple to maintain and service
- • Easy lamp replacement
- • Works on chlorine-resistant parasites such as Cryptosporidium and Giardia, harmful bacteria like E.Coli, and viruses not visible to the naked eye
- • Specially designed and tested Sterilume™-EX lamps provide consistent and reliable ultraviolet output over the entire life of the lamp (9000 hours) to ensure continuous purification.
- • Durable stainless steel chamber to prolong life and eliminate ultraviolet light degradation
- • Controller visually displays the remaining lamp life and will go into alarm if the lamp fails.
- • Monitored systems are equipped with a UV sensor which provides a continuous readout of UV intensity
- • Controller with sealed case to prevent damage from accidental water intrusion and is fully CSA and CE compliant
- • Monitored systems allow for the installation of an optional solenoid valve which will stop the flow of water through the chamber should the UV performance fall below a safe level
How does the Integrated UV System by EPS work?
The Integrated UV System by EPS is a plug & play disinfection solution. This system is designed to provide high flow and low pressure drop, with a maximum flow rate 2.5 m3/hr*.
The system comprises the following treatment stages:
- STAGE 1: FINE SEDIMENT REMOVAL
Stage 1 is a 10 inch 5 micron string wound cartridge. The 5 micron cartridge is in place to remove fine sediment and protect the UV system from turbidity, which can affect disinfection performance of the UV system. Cartridges are disposable and should be changed as water quality dictates.
- STAGE 2: ULTRA VIOLET DISINFECTION UNIT
Stage 1 is a 10 inch 5 micron string wound cartridge. The 5 micron cartridge is in place to remove fine sediment and protect the UV system from turbidity, which can affect disinfection performance of the UV system. Cartridges are disposable and should be changed as water quality dictates.
